Something a Little Different… 🎢

I had a bit of fun in my latest video 😜

Instead of giving Excel tips, I’ve listed 5 amazing free websites for you to enjoy – whether you’re bored or just need a break from work. 🎢

They include…

1. 📺 A free (and legal) service for streaming movies & TV

2. 🏋️ Workout plans to get you in shape

3. ⁉️ A huge quiz collection with thousands of topics (how many US States can you identify on a map?)

4. 🎲 A super fun trivia site

5. 📻 An interactive globe that lets you play radio stations from around the world. Iceland, Cuba, Berlin… the world is your oyster. Enjoy!

🤓 Geeky News

📖 Word - Send to Kindle from Word
You can now read your Word documents anywhere without distraction, on any supported Kindle device or app!

This is super-useful for reading long reports, or other documents where you don’t want to strain your eyes too much. This feature is currently for Office Insiders only, but will hopefully be rolled out to everyone soon.

📈Power BI - AI-Powered Quick Measure Suggestions
Power BI can now give you Quick Measure suggestions powered byAzure OpenAI. This was introduced as a “test” last October, but it’s now been enabled by default. I made a video about it here.

Give it a go and see if it works for you - you can always opt out later via the Options / Preview features. Here's how it looks:

💻 Windows 11 - Taskbar Going Back to the Windows 10 Style?
I have great news for anyone who never liked the combined app icons in the Windows 11 taskbar! Microsoft is apparently getting close to publicly testing a “Never Combine” option, similar to the option available in Windows 10.

This will come alongside text labels to more easily identify the apps. I’m all for a clean, minimalistic setup… but that clutter made me more productive 🥲

📊 Excel for the Web - Chart Task Pane Supports Editing
The Chart Task Pane in Excel for the Web now supports data editing. For example modifying the chart’s data range, removing a series, or choosing an axis. These options live in the new “Data” tab, as well as the existing “Format” tab.

💚 My Favorite Things

📚 Self-Help Book - Hero on a Mission: A Path to a Meaningful Life
I always loved Donald Miller's business and marketing books. But this one is different - it helps you write your eulogy.

Sounds depressing, right? But it’s not. It’s eye-opening, because Donald helps you think of your life as a story. In good stories, the hero goes through a transformation. They don’t start out as the hero - they start out as a normal person who’s struggling, maybe even feeling like a victim.

Only by overcoming that problem do they become the hero!

🚀 Power Stories

Thank you to Christoph for reviewing our Excel Essentials course! It’s designed for anyone who wants to get a thorough introduction to Excel. 💚

Before taking this course, I felt insecure with formulas but also felt that I was probably wasting a lot of time by not knowing how to do things easier or faster.

I also "feared" some of the unknown tools, like Power Query, but this course helped me realize they can all be learned.

Great course, with each lesson being short and concise enough to make learning easy. I also like the specific exercises very much. Also, I appreciate the list of topics with links to videos that I received via mail recently.

Tick it off. Time it. Done. ✅ Excel’s new checkboxes aren’t just easier to use - they’re surprisingly powerful. No more manually adding the timestamp or guessing when a task got done. You can now tick off a task and have Excel log the exact time it was completed. Automatically. No VBA. No scripts. Just a clever formula and a cool little trick. And the timestamp won’t budge - even if your cat walks across the keyboard and triggers a full-sheet refresh. (But be careful - with great power comes...

This week, I had the pleasure of speaking at the 49th Controller Congress in Munich - one of Europe's top events for finance leaders and controllers. It was an incredible crowd. Smart. Experienced. People who work with data every day. My session was about AI in Excel. In 40 minutes, we walked through a "day in the life" of a modern data analyst - using the AI features in Excel. When we got to Analyze Data, I asked for a quick show of hands. Who here is using it? Out of more than 400 seasoned...

“Why would I use Python in Excel if it can’t handle external data?” That’s the top complaint I hear. And it’s flat-out wrong. You see, Python people try to use Python code to import the data. That doesn't work. Excel people do copy-paste or load via Power Query into a sheet. That works - but it bloats your file. And if your dataset has more rows than Excel can handle, you're stuck. The solution? Don't load your data into Excel at all. Go from a raw CSV... ...to a clean correlation heatmap in...
