3 things we're covering today:
Excel’s TAKE function is a lot more powerful than I initially thought. It’s quickly becoming one of my “everyday” tools for data analysis.
In fact, it’s so good I made a full video to show you how to use it! I answer your most common questions, including:
This replaces a lot of the complicated formula combinations I used to have.
Maybe it can replace yours. 🤔

🤖 Windows 11 - Copilot Update
Microsoft have announced that they’re bringing Copilot directly to Windows. You’ll have an AI-powered personal assistant right there on your desktop!
They’re also extending Bing Chat Plugins to Windows, to let developers integrate their apps with Copilot.
So we’ll see a lot more of Copilot soon.
Oh, and interesting news for those of you who use different archive formats! As part of this update, Windows 11 is getting native support for RAR, Tar, 7-zip, gz, and a few others.
👥 Teams - Shuffle Participants in Meetings
Teams has new Shuffle capabilities. You can use them to:
To understand breakout rooms and how to use them, check out my video.
🎗️ Office 365 - Navigate the Ribbon More Efficiently (currently available in Office Insiders)
Navigating through the ribbon using your keyboard (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) used to be a real pain. If you went to select “Insert” and then “Shapes,” you’d have to navigate through a massive gallery of over 100 options - using just your arrow keys.
But Microsoft have just introduced tab stops for each group of tools on the ribbon. You can now quickly hop to the desired group, bypassing all the irrelevant ones.
No more endless scrolling!

Anyone can take part, and the deadline is June 4th. So vote now before you forget!
You can also vote in other categories - the “Lifetime achievement” category is especially difficult for me. I’d vote for all three candidates if I could – Bill, Bob and Liam.

This week, I had the pleasure of speaking at the 49th Controller Congress in Munich - one of Europe's top events for finance leaders and controllers. It was an incredible crowd. Smart. Experienced. People who work with data every day. My session was about AI in Excel. In 40 minutes, we walked through a "day in the life" of a modern data analyst - using the AI features in Excel. When we got to Analyze Data, I asked for a quick show of hands. Who here is using it? Out of more than 400 seasoned...
“Why would I use Python in Excel if it can’t handle external data?” That’s the top complaint I hear. And it’s flat-out wrong. You see, Python people try to use Python code to import the data. That doesn't work. Excel people do copy-paste or load via Power Query into a sheet. That works - but it bloats your file. And if your dataset has more rows than Excel can handle, you're stuck. The solution? Don't load your data into Excel at all. Go from a raw CSV... ...to a clean correlation heatmap in...
You open the file. The formula’s broken. The chart’s gone. Cell colors? A rainbow mess. You don’t know who did it. Doesn’t matter. Excel’s Version History has your back. It quietly keeps snapshots of your file, so you can rewind, review, and restore past versions. Find out what changed, when, and roll back if needed. Fix the mess. No drama. No blame. 👉 Here’s how to use it—fast. (BTW, if you want to create a dashboard like the one on the right - before someone took a sledgehammer to it 🔨 -...
