3 things we’re covering today:
In my latest video I show how you can effortlessly use Power BI and Excel together.
You can either insert a table or a pivot table in Excel that's linked to a Power BI dataset. OR you can export data from Power BI with Analyze in Excel and live connection.
The first two methods begin in Excel:
1. Create a Table in Excel Linked to Power BI Data
This method is ideal if you start with Excel and want to access data from Power BI. You can customize the data by selecting specific columns and applying filters, and the table remains connected to Power BI, so you can refresh it to get the latest data.
2. Create a Pivot Table Linked to Power BI Data
Another option when starting with Excel: You can insert a pivot table from a Power BI data set into Excel, providing more advanced data analysis capabilities. Pivot tables retain number formatting and allow you to drill down into data hierarchies.
The other two methods begin in Power BI report:
3. Export Power BI Data With “Analyze in Excel”
You can export data from Power BI to Excel for web, which creates a file in OneDrive. This lets you create pivot tables and utilize measures or implicit measures for analysis.
4. Export Power BI Visual With Live Connection:
Export summarized data from a specific visual in Power BI with a live connection. You can choose to export data in various formats, including XLSX, CSV, or with a live connection.

📊 Excel - Searchable Dropdown Lists
Microsoft has now added AutoComplete functionality to dropdown lists in Excel. This automatically compares the text typed in a cell to all items in the dropdown list, then shows only items that match. So less time scrolling through lists, or making time-consuming typos!
This feature is finally publicly available in the Current Channel! I made a video about it back in January 2022.
📊 Excel - Paste as Values Shortcut
Another great feature that’s also publicly available now in the Current Channel is the Paste as Values (Ctrl+Shift+V) shortcut. This lets you copy text from a web page, an email, or another document, then paste it into Excel as plain text, so it doesn’t mess up your current formatting. Check out my video for more info!
