If you’re like me, you’ve probably faced this problem before: You open up a dataset, and it’s filled with blank rows. Ugh! Cleaning this data is like ironing a crumpled suit you found in the back of that long-neglected closet. (I’m not a fan of ironing - I always end up with creases in the wrong places. And honestly, if I try deleting hundreds of blank rows manually, I’d probably delete something important!) But don’t worry, fixing it is way easier than it seems. In today's Between the Sheets, we’re tackling three topics that’ll help you work smarter:
Delete Blank Rows in SecondsEver tried to create a pivot table, but the empty rows threw you off? It’s a common problem. But I'm sure you've got better things to do than delete blank rows one by one. So, I’ve put together a quick video to show you 3 easy methods:
Each method has its perks! If it’s a one-time cleanup, you might not need method 3. And whether you choose 1 or 2, depends a lot on how your data is set up. Take a look, give it a try, and see which one works best for you. 🚀presentaidStruggling to create polished slides fast? Try presentaid – the ultimate PowerPoint and Excel add-in! It allows you to summarize the contents without opening the file. Or compare up to 5 files to find differences. You can also create custom Copilot Agents to coordinate the documents for different projects. This latest OneDrive update also promises an enhanced search experience. You can easily filter search results by file type, time scope, and library. Another feature that was already available in OneDrive Web is now coming to OneDrive in Windows File Explorer. You can color-code your folders for easy identification. We just got this feature. I love this one! It makes it so much easier to spot the important folders. Just right-click on the folder and go to OneDrive > Folder color. BTW, if you're a masochist, check out this (probably AI-generated) song about OneDrive. I guess it was trying to emulate Hamilton. Microsoft, please don't. We'll take the colorful folders and easy file comparison, but please don't try to do music. 🙉🙊🙈 📊 New List Slicer in Power BIThe October release of Power BI Desktop comes with a new visual - the List Slicer. It's part of an ongoing effort to revamp the core visuals. We've already had the new card and new button slicer. The List Slicer is still in the early stages but it already offers more customization options than the standard slicer. You can change how items are selected, adjust the shape and layout. You can modify the look in each state (selected, unselected, on hover). This gives you much more leeway in your design. There's more to come in future updates, like image support, labels and conditional formatting. To test it out, go to Options > Preview features and enable List slicer visual. 🤖 Quick measure suggestion only with Copilot in Power BIMicrosoft giveth, Microsoft taketh away. In the same release, Power BI is ending Quick measure suggestions. It was a preview feature that used AI to write DAX measures based on natural language prompts. It's replaced with Microsoft Fabric Copilot which is only available in the Premium or Fabric capacity. If you have a free, Pro or Premium per User account, you can still use quick measures - the old way. By populating the pre-built template with your fields. 👏 Power StoriesI came across this wonderful post on LinkedIn. I love hearing stories like this. They remind me that we've all been there.
